Minimum purchase $80 plus shipping and handling. These are bare root seedlings grown in airpruning boxes which creates a very fibrous root system as opposed to a taproot with few lateral roots when planted in the ground. These seedlings transplant well.
CHESTNUTS (Castanea sp.) $5 each
Belle Epine Chestnut - This variety has very high quality, reddish brown nuts that are late ripening, yet do ripen sufficiently here in the Northern edge of chestnut culture. Good disease resistance and an excellent pollinator. In the North, Belle Epine Chestnut seeds come down in the husk, protecting them from jays and squirrels.
Bisalta 3 Chestnut
The seeds from this variety can be very large, however overbearing can result in up to 6 nuts per bur, resulting in mid sized nuts. Bisalta No. 3 Chestnut is a vigorous, productive tree with good flavored nuts. Good pollinator. Blight resistant. European X Japanese cultivar.
Bouche de Betizac
Produces a vigorous, upright tree with large crops of big nuts that taste good and peel well. Bouche de Betizac Chestnut is a widely adapted tree, resistant to blight and phytopthora root rot. Ripens late, yet able to ripen in cooler climates. A European X Japanese selection from France. Pollen sterile. Seeds by the pound.
Marron Val di Susa
Large, sweet, easy peeling variety from Northern Italy. Plump, rounded nuts in well filled burrs. Marron di val di Susa Chestnut ripens well in cool Northern regions despite it being a late ripener. Burrs often drop before opening, protecting seeds from predation by wildlife.
Marron Val di Chiusa
Northern Italian variety. On good sites, Marron di Chuisa Pesio Chestnut produces a very large, easy peeling nut of exceptional flavor. Pollen sterile.
Marsol
Fairly early ripening of very large, shiny reddish brown nuts of good quality. Vigorous when young, would make a good timber tree. Resistance to blight, anthracnose, and phytopthera. Marsol Chestnut is a pollinator variety originally selected in France.
Precoce Migoule
Ripens early. Very dependable producer in cool regions. Precoce Migoule Chestnut produces large seeds or nuts of good flavor on a vigorous, upright tree. Good pollinizer for Colossal and others. Blight resistant. European X Japanese hybrid.
Primato
Among the earliest ripening varieties. Primato Chestnut has an Italian origin. Good pollinator. Seeds sold by the pound.
Tsukuba
Midseason ripening Japanese selection with large yellow kernels and a low rate of doubles. Tsukuba Chestnut is an upright growing tree and produces a seed crop that is known for its keeping quality. Good pollinator.
Silver Leaf
This is one of our best producers with a large, dark brown, seeds that peels very well. Silverleaf Chestnuts have a smaller tree form. Very good pollinator, starting early with early ripening. In California some of it's largest nuts have split husks, but that hasn't been a problem here in Washington. May be Japanese X European X Chinkapin. Also known as Eurobella Chestnut.
Layeroka
Layeroka Chesnut Seedling is an early ripening and productive chestnut that has large sweet nuts that fall free from the burr. Growth habit is upright and an excellent growth pattern for timber harvest. Layeroka is blight resistant and cold hardy but is pollen sterile so will not work as a pollenizer for your other chestnut varieties.

Barcelona Filbert Tree is the principal hazelnut variety grown in the Pacific Northwest, accounting for more than 60% of the acreage in Oregon.
Tonda di Giffoni Hazelnut Tree is one of the most prized Italian cultivars due to its delectable, round kernels that are very easy to process. These cold-hardy plants can be pruned into a tree form or managed as a giant bush per the gardener’s choice. An early flowering variety, Tonda di Gifoni produces crops in late August-early September in our region.
